WELCOMING REMARKS BY SEN. HON MAXINE McCLEAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND FOREIGN TRADE AT THE BARBADOS NETWORK CONSULTATION, 2010 ON AUGUST 06, 2010

Today we inaugurate Barbados’ first ever Diaspora Conference, the Barbados Network Consultation 2010 under one simple theme: “Strengthening the Bonds that Unite us”. That phrase sums up our single purpose over the next few days: reconnecting with the essence of what makes Barbados such a special place, and defining what we can do together, as patriotic Barbadians who truly love our country, to keep it strong and growing.

REMARKS BY THE HON DAVID THOMPSON, Q.C., M.P. PRIME MINISTER OF BARBADOS ON THE OCCASION OF THE INAUGURAL NETWORK CONSULTATION - AUGUST, 2010

Prime Minister Thompson

ADDRESS BY AMBASSADOR THE RT. HON. SIR LLOYD ERSKINE SANDIFORD AT THE FORMAL OPENING OF THE BARBADOS EMBASSY IN BEIJING, PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA ON JULY 15, 2010

We are assembled today at this favoured spot to mark symbolically the formal opening of Barbados’ home in China, away from home in Barbados. By our presence here, we become exalted participants in, and authentic witnesses to a great act of state that elevates the status of relationships between the People’s Republic of China and the parliamentary democracy of Barbados to its highest level ever. We have now squared the circle. China has its embassy in Barbados, and Barbados has its embassy in China!

I believe that the establishment of the Embassy of Barbados in China will build a broad bridge to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between our two countries in various fields, to promote our friendly contacts, and to expand further the long and stable friendly cooperative relationship between China and Barbados.
